The author presents the life and the work of twelve Greek Fathers of the Church. The aim is to underline the contribution of the "magistri" to the theology and to the history of Western thought.

Ha scritto inoltre numerosi articoli e saggi e ha ricevuto diverse lauree "honoris causa" dalle Università di Göttingen, Oslo, Uppsala, Vienna per il suo impegno nello studio dei Padri della Chiesa di lingua latina e greca.

Hans von Campenhausen (Rosenbeck 1903 - Heidelberg 1989) was professor and member of famous institutions. He wrote various articles and essays and he received many honorary degrees from University of Göttingen, Oslo, Uppsala, Vienna because of his studies about the Greek and Latin Fathers of the Church.
