"Le questioni siciliane", scritte da Ibn Sabin in forma epistolare, sono tramandate da un unico codice (Oxford, Bodleian Library, Hunt. 534).
L'autore andaluso risponde a cinque quesiti posti da Federico II di Svevia inerenti quattro tematiche filosofiche e una "curiositas".
Le "questiones" riguardano la concezione aristotelica dell'eternità del mondo, la scienza divina per i greci e i sufi, il significato e il numero delle categorie aristoteliche, l'immortalità dell'anima secondo Aristotele e secondo Alessandro di Afrodisia, l'interpretazione di un "hadith" attribuito a Maometto.
Il seguente volume, curato da Patrizia Spallino, è dotato di un'introduzione, con la vita e l'opera di Ibn Sabin, e di un'ampia bibliografia.

"Le questioni sicialiane", written by Ibn Sabin in epistolary form, are handed down from one code (Oxford, Bodleian Library, Hunt. 534).
The Andalusian author answers five questions posed by Frederick II of Swabia about four philosophical issues and a "curiositas".
The "questiones" refer to the Aristotelian concept of the eternity of the world, to the divine science for the Greeks and the Sufis, to the meaning and the number of Aristotelian categories, the immortality of the soul according to Aristotle and Alexander of Aphrodisias, and the interpretation of a "hadith" attributed to Muhammad.
This volume, edited by Patrizia Spallino, contains an introduction including information about the life and work of Ibn Sabin, and an extensive bibliography.

 

 

 

Patrizia Spallino

Patrizia Spallino è docente di Lingua e letteratura araba all'Università di Palermo e membro di importanti istituzioni scientifiche.
Ha insegnato a Napoli e Venezia e ha scritto numerosi saggi e articoli relativi ai suoi interessi di ricerca: la filosofia islamica, il misticismo, i rapporti tra pensiero orientale e occidentale.

Patrizia Spallino is Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Palermo and member of important scientific institutions.
She taught in Naples and Venice and has written several essays and articles related to her research interests: Islamic philosophy, mysticism, the relationship between Eastern and Western thought.

 

 

Ibn Sabin

Ibn Sabin (Murcia 1216 - La Mecca 1270) è stato un mistico e filosofo islamico.
Studioso del sufismo, dell'aristotelismo e del neoplatonismo, egli è famoso per avere risposto ai dubbi del sovrano Federico II su alcune questioni filosofiche rilevanti.

Ibn Sabin (Murcia 1216 - Mecca 1270) was a mystic and Islamic philosopher.
A scholar of Sufism, Aristotelianism and Neoplatonism, he is famous for having responded to the doubts of King Frederick II about some important philosophical questions.
