Roques mette insieme nuove prospettive di ricerca sul pensiero di Giovanni Scoto, raccogliendo in un unico libro quattro articoli già apparsi in altri volumi collettivi. Il primo contributo "Tératologie et théologie chez Jean Scot Erigène" riguarda le metafore bibliche per parlare di Dio, confrontate con la terminologia simbolica dello pseudo-Dionigi. Intitolati rispettivamente "Valde artificialiter: le sens d'un contresens" e "Traduction et interprétation: brèves remarques sur Jean Scot traducteur de Denys", gli articoli II e III mostrano il rapporto tra l'idea di traduzione e l'ermenutica, e l'esempio dell'interpretazione problematica della parola "atechnos". Nel quarto ed ultimo testo "Genèse I, 1-3 chez Jean Scot Erigène" è descritta la filosofia eriugeriana, con un particolare riferimento alla dottrina delle cause e della creazione, partendo dall'esegesi delle Sacre Scritture.

René Roques incorporates new research perspectives on the thought of John Scotus, collecting in one book four articles that appeared in other edited volumes. The first contribution, "Teratologie et théologie chez Jean Scot Erigène", concerns the biblical metaphors used to refer to God compared with the symbolic terminology of the pseudo-Dionysius. Respectively entitled "Valde artificialiter: le sens d'un controsens" and "Traduction et interprétation: brèves remarques sur Jean Scot traducteur de Denys", the second and third articles show the relationship between the idea of translation and hermenutics, and the problematic example of the interpretation of the word "atechnos". In the fourth and final text, "Genese I, 1-3 chez Jean Scot Erigène", Eriugerian philosophy is described with particular reference to the doctrine of the causes and the creation, starting from exegesis of the Scriptures.

René Roques è uno storico della filosofia francese, docente alla facoltà teologica di Lilla e dal 1960 all'Ecole pratique des hautes études di Parigi. Oggetto delle sue ricerce sono il neoplatonismo, il pensiero dello pseudo-Dionigi, di Giovanni Eriugena e di Anselmo d'Aosta, con uno sguardo rivolto alla terminologia latina e greca e alla relazione della filologia con la storia delle idee.

René Roques is a French historian of philosophy, professor at the Theological Faculty of Lille and, since 1960, at the Ecole pratique des hautes études of Paris. The subjects of his research are neo-Platonism, the thought of Pseudo-Dionysius, John Eriugena and Anselm of Aosta, with attention to Greek and Latin terminology and the relationship of philology with the history of ideas.
