After a long process of historical-philological reconstruction, Verbraken wrote the critical edition of the sermons of Augustine of Hippo, considered authentics. The volume is enriched by a historical as well as physical description of the manuscripts containing the Augustinian "sermones" and an extensive bibliography.

Pierre-Patrick Verbraken (1926 - 1992) è stato un monaco dell'abbazia benedettina di Maredsous in Belgio, noto come filologo e storico. Ha curato l'edizione critica dei testi di sant'Agostino, di san Gregorio Magno e di alcuni commentari attribuiti a san Giovanni Crisostomo. I suoi studi vertono principalmente sulla storia del Cristianesimo, sulla ricostruzione filologica delle opere agostiniane e sull'esegesi delle Sacre Scritture. Pierre-Patrick Verbraken (1926 - 1992) was a monk of the Benedictine abbey of Maredsous in Belgium, known as a philologist and historian. He edited the critical edition of the texts of St. Augustine, St. Gregory the Great and some commentaries attributed to St. John Chrysostom. His studies focus mainly on the history of Christianity, the accurate reconstruction of the Augustinian books, and the exegesis of the Scriptures. Among the most important writings we can mention "Etudes critiques sur les sermones authentiques de Saint Augustine" and "Les premiers siècles chrétiens".
